Primary One enjoy STEM Week! πŸ‘ΎπŸ§ΌπŸ›ΆπŸ»πŸ§±

22nd Jun 2023

P1 had a mixture of class experiments and group activities for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) week.

πŸ”΄The children had to make a boat using recycled materials brought in from home. πŸ›Ά They had to think about how to stick the pieces together and ensure that it didn’t get soggy when we put it in the water. After we all went outside to check and were very happy to discover they were all able to float! πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ»

πŸ”΄P1 had to make a model with our partners using only one bowl of Lego. The children had 10minutes and had to work together to see what they could build! What great models! πŸ˜€πŸ§±

πŸ”΄We watched an experiment with soap, pepper and water to help explain the importance of washing our hands. We discovered that if we use soap on our hands when cleaning them, the germs disappear. 🧼

πŸ”΄The children were given 15 coloured bears, 3 cups, 4 lollipop sticks and a post card. They firstly had to pretend the ‘floor is lava’ and work out a way to balance all bears at once. It was great fun watching their little minds think what would work best! 🐻 Then the children were given an extra 5 bears and an extra cup and they had to make a bridge for all the bears to cross at once. It was tricky but everyone was able to work it out. πŸ‘πŸ» Well done!

πŸ”΄ We used the Just2Easy programme online to make a sprite move. Children had to programme it to go forwards, turn and move to a given place on the grid.

STEM week has been lots of fun!😁
